IN AMATEUR RADIO
We are affiliated with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), the national membership association for amateur radio operators in the United States. We serve the emergency response agencies of Pierce County including the Department of Emergency Management, American Red Cross, and multi-juristictional Emergency Operation Centers. Our members participate in agency training exercises and serve as radio operators aboard Pierce County's multiple Mobile Operation Command Centers.
The county is divided into six geographical zones. Each zone has an appointed Emergency Coordinator (EC) who reports to and assists the District Emergency Coordinator (DEC).
While the primary purpose of Pierce County ARES®/RACES is to provide emergency communication assistance to the emergency response agencies, we also provide communication support to various public events.
We meet on the air every Tuesday evening at 7:00pm on the W7AAO 145.370MHz (PL136.5-) repeater. Zone nets meet on the air on other frequencies on other days.
Meetings are held quarterly at locations around the county.
